Youth Christian Education

The Youth Christian Education Committee provides for a lively Sunday school experience for children and youth of all ages.  They also provide Vacation Bible school and occasional special events.

Youth in Action (YIA)

YIA is active in providing fellowship events for middle school and high school youth.  They oversee the opportunity for all youth to make a pilgrimage to the Abbey at Iona in Scotland and for a mission trip to Mexico.

Hokusei Gakuen Schools

Hokusei Gakuen Schools in Sapporo, Japan.  In the 1880’s, First Pres sent member Sarah Smith to Japan as a missionary.  There she founded a Christian girls’ school in Sapporo. Five girls were her first students. Hokusei Gakuen has grown from those humble beginnings into a girl’s high school, a co-ed high school, a junior college and a university, which serve over 7,000 students in total. Staying connected in a high tech world still takes a personal touch. To that end, First Pres receives and hosts an exchange student from the girls high school once every other year. As part of the university student’s English classes, members of First Pres participate in email exchanges with university students who are learning English. In addition, First Pres has sent high school students to Hokusei schools on short exchange stays.  This is a mission of cultural understanding as well as a mission of encouragement to Christian schools which serve in the midst of a largely non-Christian culture.
