TITLE: DIRECTOR OF CHILD CARE AND CHILDREN’S WORSHIP

 

PURPOSE

To coordinate and supervise the childcare that is provided during the Sunday morning educational and worship times to ensure a safe and loving experience for the children; to develop, coordinate and implement the Children’s Worship program for kindergarten to fifth grade students.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Director of Child Care is accountable to the Pastor as head of staff, and the Session.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To perform all the duties of providing assistance to  the children in the nursery. To provide age appropriate Christian learning  activities in the course of providing childcare and Children’s Worship. To  interact with the children, and pray and play with the children.

     

  2. Perform all duties having to do with leading Children’s  Worship, including providing detailed Children’s Worship activities in case of  absence.

     

  3. To work with the Personnel Committee and Youth  Christian Education Committee to recruit staff of people who will provide child  care during the Sunday morning educational and worship times. To train, supervise,  schedule staff and work with Children’s Worship volunteers.

     

  4. To inform the church when supplies and equipment are  needed and when equipment needs to be repaired. To purchase snacks as needed.  To purchase supplies and equipment in consultation with the Youth Christian  Education Committee. To organize and clean equipment, books and toys as  necessary

     

  5. To maintain a record of the children who are in the  nursery and who attend children’s worship each week. To ensure that each child  is registered.

     

SKILLS REQUIRED/QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Knowledge and experience of how to care for children

     

  2. Ability to work independently as well as working well  with others

     

  3. High School education or equivalent

     

  4. Ability to recruit and supervise additional child care  givers

     

  5. A background in the Christian Faith

     

  6. Ability to plan an engaging program

     

RELATIONSHIPS

Relates to the Pastor as head of staff and to the Session as board of directors of the church. Also relates to the Youth Christian Education Committee, particularly with regard to age appropriate Christian learning experiences and equipment needs; and to the Personnel Committee as needed. Also relates to the children and their parents as childcare provider and Children’s Worship leader,

 

EVALUATION

A performance review will be conducted annually by the Pastor and the Session’s Personnel Committee. The Session’s Personnel Committee will review annually the adequacy of compensation.

 

SALARY and Work Hours

$11 - $15 per hour based on experience. Must be available Sunday mornings from 9-12 and up to 4 hours per month for preparation. Position is 12 month
